oneDrum’s much anticipated public beta release is announced
Upstart application developer oneDrum announces the beta release of its innovative collaboration software ahead of a summer 2011 launch.
Amsterdam, Netherlands & London, UK – 28 April 2011 – UK company, oneDrum (www.onedrum.com) today announced that the public beta release of oneDrum 0.8 is now available for users to test and evaluate the pre-launch version of its exciting new collaboration software.
oneDrum is a simple peer-to-peer desktop application that enables Microsoft® software users to collaborate, co-edit and file share native Excel® and PowerPoint® documents stored on their computers wherever they are located – a different department, office, time zone or continent – whether they are working online or offline.
“Endlessly searching emails to find the latest version of a file, managing document changes and having multiple versions of a document in circulation are a thing of the past,” said oneDrum chief executive officer, Jasper Westaway. “Our software enables true collaboration, colleagues can exchange thoughts, document updates and key strokes in real-time – oneDrum is a step change from hosted and cloud-based applications.” he continued.
After oneDrum’s application is downloaded to a user’s Windows® computer it runs in the background, tracking changes to open documents, sending those changes securely to collaborators, or applying changes made by other collaborators to their copies back to yours. Users’ files are stored on their respective machines within their normal security regime, running the application in the normal way.
Speaking from The Next Web Conference 2011 in Amsterdam, oneDrum’s Westaway explained; “oneDrum is an all together better way for users to collaborate. As an example, I was working on my Next Web presentation when I was on the plane. When I landed at Schipol airport and reconnected to the internet oneDrum automatically synchronised the presentation file I’m collaborating on with my co-director John,” he continued “John had made some text changes and I had introduced some new graphics. Within an instant our respective files were updated on our individual machines.”
Version control and document control are direct benefits of oneDrum – collaborators know when important documents such as training slides, pricelists, corporate presentations and projections are being altered. This gives managers the ability to control information and messaging in a secure and consistent way.
oneDrum’s goal is to simplify document production for teams using Microsoft’s top 3 applications. When the full version is released in July 2011 oneDrum will also be compatible with MS Word®.
The company believes that all applications will be collaborative and is currently working on its software development kit to enable third party developers to embed real-time collaboration features into their applications.
